COVID - 19 FOOD PACKAGE RELIEF PROGRAM - Silicon Valley Community Foundation
Our COVID-19 Emergency Food Project was successfully completed on Saturday 15th August 2020. With this project, 620 food packages were delivered to 3,720 individuals throughout the Sacred Valley. In addition to the usual items in the packages (milk, rice, eggs, tuna container, portolan fish container, tomatoes, onions, oil, fruits), we added 3 additional products (soap, oatmeal, and potatoes). All food items were obtained from local and regional vendors.
To ensure everyone’s safety, we took all of the necessary precautionary procedures including wearing masks and sanitizing frequently. Because of the lack of access, some families in the high Andes (over 15,000 feet) were not using masks. Since this initial Emergency Food Project, we have also installed sanitation stations at several locations throughout the Valley including at our children’s restaurant.
Emergency packages were delivered on three separate occasions to:
1. Yanamayu, Qelqanqa, Rumira Sondor Mayu, and Pallata.
2. Pachar
3. Tanccac and Phiri
All families who received this aid were incredibly grateful and appreciative of this support. Washi tells us that many families were crying and several mothers needed to be comforted. During these visits Washi made announcements and recommendations with regard to safety and protective precautions related to COVID.
Please see the photos and the video above to get a sense for the communities we were able to support.
This project has been made possible in part by a grant from Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
