If you are approaching the age of 72 and would like to help your tax situation with regards to your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), please see below to find out more about choosing POTH as your tax exempt organization of choice for your Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

Did you know…..

If you are approaching 72 years old and have an IRA, you sill soon be required by the IRS to make annual Required Minimum Disbributions (RMDs) from your IRA. If you are in this age group or older, you should be aware of something called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD is a mechanism by which a direct donation can be made from your IRA as all or part of your annual RMD to a tax-exempt organization of your choice, such as Path of the Heart. This is a good deal for you and for us. Why? Because an RMD is taxed the same as regular income, except that if you make a QCD, the taxable amount of the RMD is reduced by the amount of the QCD. For example, If your RMD for this year was $10,000 and you made a QCD to Path of the Heart of $1,000, your RMD would only be taxed on the $9,000 balance.

QCDs are limited to a combined total of $100,000 per year. They are handled by the entity that holds your IRA, for example a bank or an investment firm. This means that they, not you, issue the QCD check. We encourage you to speak with your financial advisor to find out if a QCD makes sense for you. We know it does for us!
